Fabric Care

Fabric care is an important part of looking after fabric sofas and chairs
Here are some simple tips to follow:

Regular Cleaning and Maintenance
The best way to start is to vacuum your fabrics regularly. If you allow dust and dirt to sit on the fabric too long it causes soiling to occur. By not removing dust on a regular basis it tends to mix with body oils and perspiration and ultimately fabric careembedding itself into the fabric's fibres.
Bright colours and pale colours usually get dirtier a lot faster than the darker colors so will need cleaning more often.
An excellent cleaning aid is fabric protection By applying fabric protection on a new fabric or a fabric that is clean and good condition, you protect it from spills and dirt particles getting inside the fabric's fibres.

When fabric protector has been applied there is much higher chance of getting the fabric back to it’s original condition.

Always use a good quality fabric cleaning product and make sure if you have a spill that you clean it up as soon as possible.

Never rub the fabric to clean it.  Always use a damp cloth and a blotting action to soak up the spills. Make sure you use a proper fabric cleaner not general purpose household cleaners that could contain caustics or bleaches which could cause irrepairable damage to your fabric furniture.

Before using any cleaning products including fabric cleaners, you should find an inconspicuous place and check the upholstery fabric for color fastness and surface changes. Let it dry and check that no changes in colour have occured and that the fabric is in good condition.
Make sure you also check the furniture manufacturers cleaning and care instructions before proceeding.

Stain Removal and Cleaning
Mop up spills as quickly as possible, if the fabric is still wet dab it dry. Get a fresh cloth and spray the the cloth with cleaner.  Do not apply directly to the area to be cleaned as fabric materials may be sensitive.
To avoid water marks, never over-wet the area being cleaned.
If the stain can’t be removed with ease, a professional cleaner with proper upholstery cleaning equipment may be required.
Whenever you spot clean a piece of furniture that has been fabric protected make sure you apply another coat of fabric protector to the cleaned area.
